Hōenji Temple
Places Associated with Maeda Toshiie
This temple was protected by Maeda Toshiie, the first lord of the Kaga domain. Its cemetery houses memorial pagodas for Toshiie's parents. Toshiie's connection to Takefu began when Oda Nobunaga, after suppressing the Ikko Ikki uprising in the Hokuriku region, placed the area centered on Takefu under the governance of the Fuchu Sanninshu: Maeda Toshiie, Sassa Narimasa, and Fuwa Mitsuharu. Later, after receiving the Kaga domain, Toshiie built a temple of the same name in Kanazawa. Hōenji is known for its Jizō statue said to relieve toothaches and extend life. It also features a vast garden for the Seven Lucky Gods pilgrimage.
