Myotsuji Temple
A Quiet Temple with National Treasures, Hidden in the Mountains
Myotsuji Temple is located in the mountains of Obama, surrounded by peaceful forests. The temple’s Hondo main hall and three-tiered pagoda are designated National Treasures. Visitors can step inside the Hondo and see the main shrine, as well as walls covered in tiny jizo figures given as offerings in prayer. The pagoda has colorful paintings inside, visible on days when the doors are opened to air out the building.
Visitors are greeted by a red painted bridge, and a stone-paved walk up to the temple lined with huge, ancient trees. In November, the temple grounds fill with the red and orange of the changing maple leaves.
