Echizen Zen Meditation Path
This is the pilgrimage route to the sacred Mount Hakusan. In the past, three routes known as the Zen-jo-do (Zen Summit Paths) led to the summit from the three provinces of Echizen, Kaga, and Mino. These were named because the summit of Mount Hakusan was considered the Zen summit in terms of spiritual practice. The Echizen Zenjōdō stretched 30 kilometers in a straight line. Starting from Hieizōji Temple, it passed through Mt. Santō, Chigōdō, and Hōonji-sanchō, then proceeded via Fushibai, Wasamori, Obara Pass, Kawakami Shrine, Ichinose, Tōji Iwaya, Midagahara, and Murodō before reaching the summit of Mt. Hakusan. Currently, the accessible sections are approximately 7 kilometers from Heisenji Temple to Fushibai and approximately 10 kilometers from Ichinose to the summit of Mount Hakusan.
