Reisenji Temple
A temple where the wellspring of child-rearing connects hearts across five centuries
Walking along the approach lined with tall, straight cedar trees, a tall, slender building comes into view on the left. Inside stands a large, black-lacquered wooden Buddha statue. It is approximately 8 meters tall. It is unusual for it to be a standing statue. It is one of the Three Great Buddhas of Takefu. Next to it is a small shrine dedicated to Inari. Reisenji Temple is a Soto Zen temple, and it is said that Inari is the guardian deity of its founder, Zen Master Dogen. The principal image is the Thousand-Armed Kannon Bodhisattva. It is said to have been founded by Shiba Yoshitoshi, who came to Echizen during the Ōnin War. At the upper part of the cemetery, horizontal-type ancient tombs are lined up.
