Tomb of Magara Jurozaemon Naotaka @ Kotokuji Temple

The grave of the mighty warrior of the Echizen Asakura clan, who wielded the great sword "Taro Tachi"

Shimobe Jurozaemon, a retainer of the Echizen Asakura clan who appears in the "Asakura Shumonki," "Nobunaga Koki," and "Akechi Gunki," maintained his residence in Shimano, Echizen (present-day Echizen City). He was renowned as a mighty warrior alongside his younger brother, Naozumi, and his son, Takamoto. He wielded the great sword "Taro Tachi," forged by the Echizen swordsmith Chiyozuru Kuniyasu (founder of Echizen-style blades). It is said that when Ashikaga Yoshiaki visited Ichijodani seeking refuge with Asakura Yoshikage, Makabe effortlessly brandished this great sword before the shogun. He fought valiantly alongside his father in the Battle of Anegawa against the combined forces of the Asai and Asakura clans versus the Oda and Tokugawa clans, but was killed in action on June 28, 1570 (Genki 1).

The "Battle of Anegawa Screen" held by the Fukui Prefectural Museum of Cultural History depicts Naotaka wielding a large sword believed to be the Taro Tachi (this screen is displayed once a year).

Large swords traditionally believed to be the Taro Tachi are enshrined at Atsuta Shrine in Aichi Prefecture and Hakusan Hime Shrine in Ishikawa Prefecture (various theories exist).
