Amino Shrine

Shrine associated with Emperor Keitai

A shrine dedicated to Emperor Keitai. Legend holds that Emperor Keitai lived in Ajimano before his ascension to the throne. During the Muromachi period, the Kuratani clan maintained a castle here, and remnants of earthen ramparts remain to the north and west of the shrine grounds. The Kuratani clan originated when Ashikaga Yoshitsugu, the second son of Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, was suspected by his elder brother Yoshitoki and committed suicide. His son, Yoshitoshi, fled to Echizen and adopted the surname Kuratani. The clan is said to have lasted for three generations, spanning 150 years. In 1573 (Tenshō 1), they were destroyed by Nobunaga alongside the Asakura clan. A monument and statue marking the birthplace of the Noh play "Hanagama" are located here.
