Ben-ga Falls
A waterfall with a drop of approximately 40 meters. It can be seen at an elevation of about 830 meters, where the Tanigide River, flowing southwest from the plateau within Hōonji Mountain, turns its course southward. The "Echizen Geography Guide" records: "It rises twelve丈 (about 36 meters). It is said that in ancient times, a maiden named Ben threw herself into this pool, and a stupa remains." This tragic love story between Wakō and Lady Ben, who threw themselves into this waterfall, is said to be the origin of its name. Access is via the Kōenji Line of the Wide-Area Trunk Forest Road from Kuremi, reaching the falls in about 10 minutes from the Ben-ga-taki sign. The area around the falls is also famous for its beautiful autumn foliage.
