Mizuumi Dengaku and Noh Dances

Held on February 15 every year, a traditional event that has been handed down for 800 years.

The "Mizumi no Dengaku Noh Dance," which has been handed down since the Kamakura period (1185-1333), has been performed here for about 800 years.
When Hojo Tokiyori, regent of the Kamakura Shogunate, was stranded by snow during his travels around the country and wintered at Mizumi, the villagers danced "Dengaku" to comfort him.

Tokiyori taught the villagers "Noh dance" in return for their kindness.
On February 15, every year, in the tense atmosphere, the fourth Dengaku and fifth Noh plays are solemnly dedicated in accordance with ancient ceremonies.

The traditional event, which is the pride of Ikeda Town, invites the audience into an ethereal world.

Dengaku is a form of dengaku in which flutes and drumbeats are added to rice planting and other farming rituals by commoners in the Heian period (794-1185).

Dengaku and Noh, the aristocrats' custom, are dedicated at the same time, which is a unique feature of this festival.

The dancers and musicians are all residents of the Mizumi area, from junior high school students to the elderly, who practice every day during the winter.

Among the dancers, "Okina" and "Sanbaso" and "Takasago" are performed every day during the winter,

The three men who perform the "Takasago" dance have been practicing for the past three days.

On the day of the festival, they will perform the "Bekka" ceremony to purify themselves without eating food prepared by others, and on the day of the festival, they will perform the "Misogi" ceremony in the river.

The Dengaku Noh Dances begin at 1:00 p.m. and last half a day, during which the fourth Dengaku and fifth Noh plays are performed.
