Mizuumi Dengaku and Noh Dances
The Mizuumi Dengaku and Noh Dances, said to have been passed down since the Kamakura period of 1185-1333, has been preserved in this region for approximately 800 years.
It is said to have begun when Hojo Tokiyori, the shikken (regent) of the Kamakura Shogunate, was stranded by snow during his travels through the provinces and spent the winter in Mizuumi.
They danced the "Dengaku" to comfort him, and in return, Tokiyori taught them the "Noh Dance," marking the beginning of this tradition.
Every year on February 15th, amidst the crisp, taut air, four Dengaku dances and five Noh dances are solemnly performed according to ancient tradition.
Immerse yourself in this traditional event, a source of pride for Ikeda Town, as it draws spectators into a world of elegance and subtlety.

Dengaku dances originated in the Heian period of 794-1185 as folk rituals performed by commoners during agricultural activities like rice planting, accompanied by flutes and clapping.
The event's unique feature lies in the simultaneous performance of this Dengaku and Noh, an art form cultivated by the aristocracy.
Both the dancers and musicians are residents of the Mizuumi district, ranging from junior high students to the elderly, who practice diligently every day throughout the winter.
And on the day of the festival, they perform a purification ritual in the river.
The Mizuumi Dengaku and Noh Dances begins at 1:00 PM and lasts half a day, featuring four Dengaku dances and five Noh dances.
