Ōmushi Shrine
A shrine said to have a history as ancient as Ise Grand Shrine. Within its grounds, the "Ishigami Spring" flows.
This shrine is said to have a history as ancient as Ise Grand Shrine. Its two wooden statues of male deities, created during the Heian period, are designated as Important Cultural Properties of Japan. Legend has it that long ago, when pests infested the land and caused severe damage to crops, prayers were offered here. The pests then vanished, leading to a bountiful harvest. This is said to be the origin of the name "Omushi" (Great Insect). Beside the shrine hall, a large sacred rock is enshrined as the deity's manifestation. It is called Oiwa Shrine. The water drawn to the purification basin is spring water known as "Ishigami no Mizu" (Stone God Water), so pure that it was once used as a water source for a simple water supply system.
