Fujigaki Shrine
A shrine dedicated to Honda Tomomasa, who also preserved Lord Ieyasu's black seal letter
A shrine dedicated to Honda Tomomasa, lord of Fuchu. Tomomasa was a renowned ruler who devoted himself to rebuilding the war-ravaged town of Fuchu, improving its streets and irrigation systems, and fostering local industries. From a young age, he served Yuki Hideyasu, the second son of Tokugawa Ieyasu. When Hideyasu became lord of Fukui Domain, Tomomasa was appointed as his retainer and granted 39,000 koku of rice, entrusted with governing the Fuchu domain. He enjoyed the deep trust of Ieyasu, the second shogun Hidetada, and the third shogun Iemitsu. Fujigaki Shrine preserves items connected to Tomomasa, such as his sword, along with black-sealed letters from Ieyasu and Hidetada.
