Injoji Temple

The magnificent mountain gate, constructed entirely of Keyaki zelkova wood, stands as the special head temple of the Tendai Shinshu sect.

Established in 1488, this temple is a special head temple of the Tendai Shinshu sect. Its magnificent mountain gate is constructed entirely of Keyaki zelkova wood. It features dynamic carvings, including the Sixteen Arhats, carp climbing a waterfall, and majestic lions. Entering the precincts, the main hall stands directly ahead. A stone Great Buddha is enshrined in the hall just in front. The site also houses city-designated cultural properties: a Jizo statue and a Fudo Myo statue. These stone Buddhas date from the Warring States period (approx. 1467-1568), and straw sandals are offered before them. It is said that these stone Buddhas walk patrols at night to guard against fire, and people offer straw sandals to protect their feet.
