Teramachi Street (Echizen City)
Just north of Sōja, on the road extending west from the old Hokuriku Highway, proceed west along the road in front of Kokubunji Temple to find Hikitsugi Temple at its western end. The "Shōtoku 1st Year Fuchū Map" (1711) depicts Kokubunji Temple to the northeast of the street, and various temples—Jōganji (present-day Honda 3-chōme), Hōonji, Myōkoku-ji, and Eikyu-ji—to the south. A record from the 4th year of the Kaei era (1851) notes it as a temple town (90 households). As a tourist spot in Takefu, the street features stone-paved surfaces lined with stone lanterns and hanging lanterns, creating an atmosphere rich in charm. At night, the light spilling from the stone lanterns illuminates the stone pavement and the outer walls of the temples and shrines, evoking the ambiance of an old townscape.
