Zui Gen Temple

A Zen temple belonging to the Myōshinji branch of the Rinzai school. It is said to have been founded by the great master Taichō during the Tenpyō-hōji era in what is now Yoshié, Sabae City. After falling into ruin, it was restored during the Edo period by Matsudaira Yoshikata, the fifth and seventh lord of the Fukui domain, and relocated to its present site. The main hall and study hall, remnants of the Fukui Castle Honmaru Palace, are designated as prefectural cultural properties. In mid-September, bush clover flowers add color to the approach path, earning it the affectionate nickname "Hagi Temple." As a famous bush clover spot in early autumn, it attracts many visitors.

The temple also offers experiential programs, including "Sutra Copying Experience" using pencils and a "Buddhist Experience" limited to one group per day.
