Asuwayama Park
Mount Asuwa, standing at an elevation of 116.4 meters, features a statue of Emperor Keitai—who laid the foundation for Fukui—as well as a cluster of more than a dozen ancient burial mounds. Located on Atagozaka Hill, the area is home to the Akemi Tachibana Literature Memorial Museum, the Atagozaka Tea Ceremony Museum, and the Fukui City Museum of Natural History. In spring, 3,500 cherry trees—selected as one of Japan’s “Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots”—bloom in full splendor, and in early summer, the city’s official flower, the hydrangea, comes into full bloom. The park also features the Asuwa Mountain Park Amusement Park, which includes an outdoor adventure course and a mini-zoo that was renovated in September 2018 and is now home to new residents such as capybaras.
